The operator of the tipper truck in our picture, Morpeth-based Sanders Plant & Waste Management, had a heavy-duty roller worth £25,000 stolen from a customer site in County Durham where it was out on hire.

Help was at hand. The roller was equipped to work on the Ctrack Online system, a web-based vehicle tracking solution, and the company was alerted to the theft by SMS and email. Office staff were able to track the precise position of the roller, as well as capturing data that could help any subsequent any police investigation. Result: the roller was recovered intact.

Originally the company had been using Ctrack only on road vehicles such as the Renault eight-wheeler in our picture, chiefly for the operational benefits, but fortunately it later extended the system to all its plant and machinery – in this case to provide added levels of security.

Clearly it has already paid off.
