In order to manage and monitor the movements of its security guards in the field, MAN Commercial Protection Ltd has replaced a system using dedicated mobile devices with a software-based system for smartphones.

The supplier is Skillweb, which is known better for business-oriented solutions, but now also offers a system called SmartTask Security, which is based on its SmartTask suite. It runs under the Android operating system.

Guards simply log their presence at each location by swiping their phone past a tag fixed at some suitable point within the premises. These use either NFC (Near Field Technology) or QR barcodes to register with the device, logging the guard’s presence, location and time. Office-based controllers and customers can monitor the status of guards and confirm the completion of scheduled visits and rounds via a web-based portal.

According to operations manager Chris Smith: “Our previous standalone guard tour device was both cumbersome and complicated. SmartTask Security has already shown itself to be a cost-effective and functional tool that will help us to improve customer service, achieve operating efficiencies and support business development.”
