As part of a four-year contract awarded to Ryder to provide fleet management and leasing to the UK’s Ministry of Defence in Germany, the organisation is rolling out a field service management solution from Trimble.

Under the “Project ROC” contract, which was placed last year, Ryder is providing fleet management and leasing services for 1,500 of the MoD’s administrative transport vehicles in Germany.

In support of the arrangement, it is using Trimble’s GeoManager fleet management, driver safety and vehicle diagnostics solutions. We understand that these were selected following a recommendation from the MoD in the UK, where similar systems have proved themselves under a scheme known as “Project Phoenix”.

The German contract provides Ryder and the MoD with real-time visibility into day-to-day fleet operations, enabling the two organisations to identify, manage and improve key aspects such as vehicle utilisation, maintenance planning and customer service. The ultimate objectives include reducing fleet size, spot hire spending, fuel costs and CO2 emissions.

Ryder’s European operations these days focus on commercial vehicle rental, contract hire and maintenance.
