Bosch SoftTec in Germany has unveiled a system called 360°logiQ for warning drivers when they are in danger of encountering unexpected problems such as queuing traffic ahead. It says the system has been referred to by some observers as a “country road assistant”.

It works through a live link to a web server (Bosch calls this “Trusted Data Provisioning”), which in turn has access to dynamic map information made available by TomTom, Bosch’s partner in the project. Through these means the vehicle is provided with information relating to the “dynamic electronic horizon” – in other words, the constantly moving zone through which it is travelling.

The real-time traffic information includes data on speed limits, danger points and traffic congestion. Interacting with precise map data, 360°logiQ calculates a route forecast, and can automatically adjust the vehicle’s speed appropriately.

Bosch says it has the potential to reduce the risk of rear-end collisions, as well as making driving safer and easier by regulating speed according to the prevailing limit or conditions.
