Fewer than half of e-retailers sell to consumers abroad

Forty-two per cent of UK e-retailers are only prepared to deliver within the UK, according to a new survey by e-commerce specialist Snow Valley, which is described in a free publication, International E-commerce Report.

The report says 43 per cent do deliver worldwide, but 58 per cent of those orders had to be placed in a language other than that of the shopper’s own country, and only 19 per cent showed prices in the shopper’s currency. The average charge for overseas delivery was £12.27

It also found that on 90 per cent of orders with returns instructions, the retailer wanted return by post at the shopper’s expense.

In terms of performance, the survey found that more than half of sample orders placed around the world arrived within seven working days, and 70 per cent of the orders arrived within the timeframes given on the web site. Sixty-five per cent of deliveries were made by a local post service, and the Royal Mail insignia was displayed on 44 per cent of orders.
